LONI 2.0 is a comprehensive cyberinfrastructure technology reinvestment addressing high-performance computing, optical network, and router network architectures.
The high-performance computing aspect seeks to replace our current Queen Bee cluster with a 1-2 Petaflop/s machine by the end of June 30, 2014.
The optical network aspect seeks to implement native Ethernet capability into a optical platform able to transmit a single 100G carrier within the same channel space of the LONI Network 10G Layer 1 optical backbone. In addition, we plan to extent this native Ethernet capability across our wide area network using a unified management platform.
The router network aspect seeks to implement 10/40/100G Ethernet routing including a Science DMZ capability while at the same time reducing the current number of routers in the LONI Network.
